Mentor Training

Mentors will be provided

  1. A one day training seminar will be provided on Saturday July 14th from 8AM to 5PM at Refreshing Mountain Camp. The day will begin with mentors being paired with their students so they can talk through the student’s personal growth plan and how accountability is critical to this process. The students and mentors will then go into separate tracks for the remainder of the day. The mentors will focus on training that they will need to carry out their task. Information will also be provided in the area of child security policies.
  2. Each mentor will be assigned to a mentor of mentors or a Mentor Coach. This person will call the mentor once a month to check on how the mentor is doing personally, how the interaction with the student is going, if any help or guidance is needed to see the relationship and the student succeed, and to ask if there are any prayer requests.
  3. Students are assigned to a peer group. The mentors of students within a peer group will be given the opportunity to converse via an on-line conference call. This will allow a small group of mentors to connect and hear about victories and challenges that have arisen while in the midst of mentoring. A mentor coach will connect at this time as well to encourage the mentors and see if there is anything that Imagine the Impact can do to support the mentors or students.
  4. Mentors will be brought together for a training/connection time in early January. This time will allow for additional insights to be shared about mentoring while giving time for mentors to connect with each other. Mid-point evaluation of the program will also be in important part of this gathering.
  5. Training resources in the form of links and suggested books/articles will also be posted on the Imagine the Impact web site, www.imaginetheimpact.org, for mentors to log in and use.
